“My mom is a juried member of the League, so I grew up around craft. I loved my silversmithing and pottery classes at Cushing Academy. Now I’m a freshman in the bachelor of fine arts program at Miami University in Oxford, OH — the League’s scholarship is helping to make this all possible. To know that I won this scholarship from one of the most prestigious craft organizations in the country is incredible.” Meredith Ashley Joyce, Winner, $1,000 League Scholarship

Friends and supporters of our Annual Fund are helping talented women and men realize their dreams and learn the skills needed to pursue careers in craft! Meredith is the 2008 recipient of our $1,000 Scholarship that is given to a high school student who will pursue a craft-related field of study. This year, we also gave scholarships in varying amounts to four other students who are studying ceramics, woodworking, and craft as it relates to therapy.

Through our Annual Fund, we award $30,000 in scholarships and grants each year to individuals and organizations in support of craft education. Our scholarships are not just for young people. One of our recent scholarships was awarded to George Sprague who says:

“Your scholarship is helping me to take woodturning classes to complement my education in traditional wooden boatbuilding. It may sound a bit risky for a 33-year-old newlywed to give up a job with great pay in commercial construction . . . but I’ll be giving back more to the world (and using up less), and developing a valuable skill to pass down to my children.”

Scholarships are also awarded to experienced craftspeople to experiment with new techniques. League juried member, Kit Cornell remarked, “By providing scholarships, the League is helping to ensure the future of craft in New Hampshire.” The Annual Fund also helps to support Gallery 205 exhibitions, general operations, and to purchase resource materials for the Betty Steele Craft Library.

As we look ahead to the future, it is essential that we continue to expand our mission of education. To achieve our goals we need your continued support! Your generous gift will help nourish the creativity of this generation of craftspeople . . . and develop the talents of the next generation. Your support is deeply appreciated.

Sincerely,

Susie Lowe-Stockwell
Executive Director
